An enormous THANK YOU to all who showed up to our protest for fair tolling on October 2nd! We had nearly twenty riders, which is an impressive number for a mid-day action on very short notice. After the protest, those who continued on to attend the third and final public meeting of the Transportation Mobility Review Board heard that the TMRB is poised to recommend a 50% congestion pricing discount for motorcycles and legally registered motor scooters! We instantly erupted in applause loud enough to impress the TMRB Chair.
I’ve been working on this for nearly five years. While I can’t help but feel disappointment that we haven’t yet gotten a full exemption, until Monday’s meeting we were in grave danger of being forced to pay the full toll. Let’s celebrate our hard won discount acknowledgment.
While the 50% discount decision seems to have been made, it would be unwise to coast at this moment. We’ve petitioned, spoken at public hearings, and met with electeds. We have one more push to ensure that our discount makes it over the finish line.
Barring an unlikely intervention, the TMRB will be drafting their recommendations over the next two weeks. They’ll formally present them to the full MTA Board at the end of the month. If your NY State lawmaker or your NY City Councilmember has been promising a letter of support, now is the time to get it done!
If you represent a motorcycle organization or business group, your strong voice advocating for at least a 50% discount on congestion pricing tolls would be very welcome right now. We are happy to provide sample letters of support, or any other letter writing help. Resources are available on our Take Action page, or email us. This is our moment!
Send your letters of support for at least a 50% motorcyclist’s discount on congestion pricing tolls to:
